Spotlight on International Justice Mission

“A holistic, loving and effective approach to justice.”

No one throws a party like International Justice Mission, and most likely it’s because they have the best reason to. After 20 years on the frontlines of anti-slavery work, the IJM team, supporters and many of the survivors they’ve rescued, came together to celebrate the 47,000 people who have been freed from slavery because of their work. I (Julia, co-founder) had the honour of attending this conference, Liberate!, in Dallas, Texas back in September. In short, it was impossible to be present and not be filled with hope, gratitude and awe.

International Justice Mission is by far doing the most effective anti-slavery work in the world today. Work so effective, that in many cities they employ their approach to justice, after some years of rescues, rehabilitation for survivors, justice brought against traffickers and working to involve and subsequently reform local law enforcement, IJM packs up and leaves because trafficking has decreased up to 85% and local law enforcement has proven themselves to be capable of keeping it down. It is incredible. If you want to feel inspired, head over to IJM Rescue Stories to read their stories of freedom and redemption!

We at Acacia applaud their work, particularly as it relates to women. Many female survivors rescued by IJM are not only free, but are healing, working and thriving. IJM truly employs a holistic, loving and effective approach to justice.

If you’re reading this and would like to offer your support to IJM, than there are lots of opportunities! Here’s a couple to start with:

  • Donate individually, or fundraise with a group and see how far your money can go. For example, $180 provides healthcare for a victim of sexual assault and $6,300 pays for a slavery rescue operation.
  • Become a monthly Freedom Partner for a minimum donation of $24/month which goes directly to the rescue and rehabilitation of slaves.

IJM’s vision is to rescue millions, protect half a billion, and prove that justice for the poor is unstoppable. They are a global organization that protects the poor from violence throughout the developing world. IJM partners with local authorities to rescue victims of violence, bring criminals to justice, restore survivors, and strengthen justice systems.
